Fatal Ipoh accident: Senior cop to be charged with murder on Dec 18, says AG

PETALING JAYA: The senior cop who allegedly rammed his car into a Form Five student will be charged with murder on Monday (Dec 18), says the Attorney-General.

Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh said that after scrutinising the results of the investigation and based on the evidence in the investigation paper, the A-G's Chambers has found there is sufficient evidence for a murder charge against the suspect.

"Therefore, the suspect will be tentatively charged at the Ipoh Magistrate's Court under Section 302 of the Penal Code on Monday.

"The Magistrate's court will then determine a date to transfer the case to the Ipoh High Court for trial," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 17) evening.

It was reported that Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie died on the spot following the incident at about 12.40pm on Friday (Dec 15) and a post-mortem found that the SMK Jati student died due to chest and abdominal injuries.

A police officer had since been remanded until Monday (Dec 18) to facilitate investigations following the accident, and is said to be a Deputy Superintendent based in Kedah.
